SUMMARY:Dinner Plain Sled Dog Sprint (Australia)
DESCRIPTION:This sled dog race has been running for over 25 years. Mushers from every State and Territory (except the NT) travel each winter with their teams to compete on the X country ski trails around the Dinner Plain Village. \nThe dog teams number from one to six and they are separated into ‘classes’ and run two heats over two days. The open class ‘competitive’ races have 2 dog\, 3 dog\, 4 dog and 6 dog teams. There is usually between 10-20 teams in each class. The teams line up and run out in 1 minute intervals. The faster teams will pass the slower teams\, with the faster teams ‘seeded’ to run out first in the second heat. The winners receive prizes\, trophies and some awesome premium Black Hawk Dog Food for their teams.\n\nThe DP Sprint isn’t just about the prizes for the fastest teams though. We also have a Touring/Social class which is good for beginners or mushers who want to take their older dogs out for a run. In 2022\, we introduced the Mini Musher Sprint for kids and families which was a great success. An adult can take a child under 12 out on a sled with up to two dogs. \nAnd finally we are also supporting Junior Mushers to participate and build their mushing skills and confidence with our 2 dog Junior Class. \nThe event is held on the 10th and 11th of August 2024. Racing starts at 9am and finishes at 1pm on both days. We look forward to seeing you there!

SUMMARY:Eagle Cap Extreme Sled Dog Race
DESCRIPTION:The ECX team provides a premier sporting event for mushers and their teams through some of the most scenic and rugged country in the US. The race runs through the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area and Wallowa-Whitman National Forest adjacent to the Eagle Cap Wilderness. \nAll races run concurrently and start at Ferguson Ridge Ski Area\, just east of the town of Joseph\, Oregon. The 100-mile race runs to the Ollokot Checkpoint before continuing on a scenic loop returning to Ollokot where they have their vet check and mandatory 3-hour layover of their overall 6-hour floating mandatory rest. They then return to Ferguson Ridge Ski Area for the finish. The 200-mile race takes a longer route up to the Ollokot Checkpoint. They then run a loop and return where the teams have their vet check and mandatory 4-hour layover of their overall 8-hour floating mandatory rest. They then run another scenic loop and return to the Ollokot for a final rest before returning to Ferguson Ridge Ski Area for the finish. The two-day 31-mile Adult and Junior races both start and finish at Ferguson Ridge Ski Area after going through the Salt Creek Summit SnoPark\, a great alternate location to watch the teams.

SUMMARY:Race to the Sky (Montana)
DESCRIPTION:The race\nRace to the Sky is Montana’s premier winter sporting event\, and recognized as one of the most challenging and beautiful sled dog races in the world. Our Races are a test of physical strength\, mental toughness\, teamwork\, and a special bond between man and his canine friends. Working together\, teams negotiate the trail through Montana’s scenic Rocky Mountains.\nThe races were organized first as Montana’s Governor’s Cup Sled Dog Race in 1986 and we ran the first 500 mile continuous race in February of that year. Since that year\, Race to the Sky has been an Iditarod qualifier.\nIn 1989\, we became Montana Sled Dog\, Inc. Each February\, since then\, MSDI has been hosting this distance race. We have gone through several distance changes\, including adding a 250 mile race\, a 300 mile race and changing the 500 mile race to a 350 mile continuous format race.\nWe now organize three races “within” a race. We have the 300 mile distance race\, the 100 mile junior race and the 100 mile adult race.

SUMMARY:UP 200 (Michigan)
DESCRIPTION:The UP200 is one of the top 12-dog mid-distance races in the Midwest and is also an Iditarod qualifier. The UP200 trail covers 228 miles of challenging terrain from Marquette to Grand Marais\, Michigan\, and back again through forested land and near-wilderness. Mushers face hills\, creek crossings\, deep snow\, and isolated trails. \n30 minutes after the last musher leaves on the UP200\, the Midnight Run sled dog race begins. The Midnight Run is an eight-dog\, 82-mile race. This race is typically a faster race than the UP200. Midnight Run mushers will start in downtown Marquette\, travel to Chatham\, and then return along the same trail\, finishing at Ojibwa Casino on M-28 east of Harvey. The Midnight Run draws some of the finest eight-dog teams in the region and the competition is fierce.
